I Tried A Week of Logging Everything I Did

Hello and welcome to my blog where I try something new and share my experience of it! This week I tried logging everything that I did!

I’ll be honest and say that I have no idea how I came up with this challenge. I tried searching online to find something like how I was going to do it and the results weren’t exactly what I was looking for. In fact, the closest thing to this challenge that I can think of is Matt D’Avella’s version where he tracks every minute of his life for three months; but even that, didn’t seem to be exactly what I was looking for.

The idea that I had was that I wanted to track “everything” that I did for the week. To make my life a little easier, I decided that I would do this by the hour. That means if I woke up at 8:03 in the morning, it would go under the 8AM block and so on.

I did my absolute best to keep up with this but I’ll be honest and say that there were times where I had forgotten to track something; like how my last day I forgot to track what I was eating or went to the bathroom. Anyway, it was challenging!

Here is everything that I did for the week if you’re interested: (please note that there are some things on here that are not appropriate for children).

What I Learned

So, this challenge was a little bit surprising because even though I had to constantly type what I was doing (be it on Google Docs or on my phone memo app), it wasn’t too hard or tedious to keep up with.

Here are some things that I learned:

  1. I really need to drink more water and eat a little bit healthier
  2. Even with a lot of YouTube, a majority of the content inspired me in some way.
  3. Doing this challenge really helped me to establish more of a routine and push myself to be a little bit more productive, but not stress too much about it.
  4. I have what it takes to stick to a challenge, even when something that I didn’t see coming (Everly’s fever) occurs.
  5. I resort to screens and other addictions whenever I’m bored.
  6. Actually acknowledging I was feeling and acting grumpy because of writing it down, it forced me to want to do something to change it. Almost as if writing “I’m feeling cranky” ticked something inside of my brain such as: “Hey, what can we do to get to the next step?” instead of sitting in misery.
  7. My sleep schedule is all over the place, but it worked out just fine when I fall asleep and wake up at weird times, as long as I get the same amount of sleep. However, I enjoyed waking up with the sun a lot more than going to bed at 7 PM on accident.
  8. Nursing Everly doesn’t hold me back as much as I originally thought. However, she does distract me a lot whenever I’m trying to get something done; especially while on the computer.
  9. I browse baby names a lot!
  10. Actually jotting down my disagreements with my husband helped me navigate how to solve them a lot easier instead of festering.

Did I Enjoy The Challenge?

Absolutely! Which really surprised me because I don’t like a challenge that forces me to pause and walk away to do something. Tracking my tasks for an entire week really helped me realize I’m not as useless and lazy to my home as I had originally thought.

I was really proud of myself for sticking to it because I was worried at one point. I panicked while talking to my husband because I felt intimidated to be “doing something” and he reminded me that being there for our child WAS doing something. This challenge really helped me have more fun with my kids and husband – not necessarily because I would be sharing it on my blog, but because it was fun to see everything we did together at the end of the week.

As for implementing this in the future, I could definitely see me doing this – just not to the extremities like I had been doing. I would definitely continuing a different method of doing this, like by motherhood, household, marriage, career, and relaxation categories. To be honest, I wanted to try that during this challenge, but I just went with what I felt was best for my mental health.

Should You Try It?

I definitely think that it would benefit anybody who tries it! Since I don’t have anything that I can find that does it how I did it, here is what I would recommend:

  1. Do it by the hour and fill all tasks you did within that hour. Some people do it by how long it takes, but that would have been way too tedious for someone like me.
  2. Be honest. If you sat on the couch all day, you’re still doing something. Are you reading a book? Watching something on TV? Is there a movie that you loved that you started? Don’t feel guilty for relaxing. Believe me, the moment you see everything you ARE doing that has become second nature to you, it all balances out.
  3. If you have technology nearby, set a reminder to make an update at the end. For me, I had our Alexa device remind me to “update” every hour. It drove my family nuts, but it helped me keep track. You can do a reminder on your phone.

And that’s it! Pretty easy and straightforward to do!

If you try this, feel free to share your experience or a link to your page and I’ll happily check it out!

I definitely consider this challenge to be… successful!

Thanks for reading!

Have any other suggestions for challenges? Let me know!

💛 Chrissy.
